Mary Saandrina Rose S, joined as junior intern in November 2024, after her bachelor's level course, and is currently a fellow in 'trauma healing initiatives'

"My time at CHI has been a deeply enriching journey of learning and unlearning what trauma truly means at its core. I had the opportunity to [co-author] research papers and received training in decolonizing practice for complex trauma. The learning sessions—where we regularly discussed the systemic factors influencing mental well-being—were incredibly insightful and transformative.

Interning at CHI helped me clarify and shape my career path as a trauma-focused counsellor with a strong foundation in policy research. It allowed me to upskill across multiple areas and grow into a more holistic mental health professional. I’m grateful to have been part of such a progressive and reformative organization."

NatHASHA BIJU, joined as junior intern in JANUARY 2025, after her bachelor's level course, and is currently a SENIOR INTERN

"Having Dr Smriti Vallath as my mentor at “CHI for trauma and well-being” supporting my learning and growth has been an incredible opportunity.

From the beginning, I was amazed by her calm and engaging outlook on mentoring. She is always able to provide an honest assessment in a way that fosters growth and does not create insecurity. She also enables the interns to have candid discussions that will improve learning and bonding among the team. She validates every idea I present as an intern and suggests how to improve it further, which positively reinforces my opinions and ideas.

One of her most amazing qualities is the level of consideration she has about our growth and development. Rather than providing us with great ideas with her expertise, she encourages growth through guidance, not answers; sharpens skills and understanding.
